Drug Uses
Imitrex is used for treatment of migraine headaches. It targets the blood vessels and the nerves which cause the migraine headaches.

How Taken
Take one or two doses of Imitrex when migraine symptoms occur. The maximum daily dose of Imitrex is 200 mg.

Warnings/Precautions
Do not take this medication if you have allergic reaction to Imitrex, Raynaud syndrome, have had strokes in the past, certain types of heart disease, transient ischemic attacks, uncontrolled blood pressure, and peripheral vascular disease. Talk to your doctor before taking Imitrex if you are a smoker, have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, diabetes. Notify your doctor if you are taking any headache medication, ergotamine or MAO inhibitors such as linezolid, furazolidone, tranylcypromine, phenelzine, or selegiline. Do not take Imitrex If you are pregnant, likely to become pregnant or breastfeeding, without your doctor`s approval. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not known if Imitrex can cause harm to the fetus. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Imitrex while you are pregnant. Imitrex is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Imitrex, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Imitrex should not be used in children younger than 18 years old, safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Do not use more than 2 doses in a 24–hour period or treat more than 4 headaches within 30 days without checking with your doctor.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately.

Missed dose
Imitrex should not be taken regularly, only take this drug in case of migraine attack. Therefore you can not miss a dose.

Possible side effects
Some of the possible side effects of Imitrex are– Burning, numbness, or tingling of the skin dizziness, drowsiness, feeling of heaviness, pressure, or tightness, feeling strange, mild, temporary flushing, muscle aches, nausea, neck stiffness, pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site, throat or sinus discomfort, tight feeling in the head, tingling, tiredness, vomiting, warm/hot sensation. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately– allergic reactions, bloody diarrhea, chest pain, confusion, fainting, fast or irregular heartbeat, hearing problems, numbness or tingling of an arm or leg, one–sided weakness, pain, tightness, or pressure in the jaw, neck, or chest, seizures, severe headache, dizziness, or vomiting, severe or prolonged flushing, severe stomach pain, shortness of breath, speech changes, very cold or blue fingers or toes, vision changes or loss of vision, wheezing.

Storage
Store this medication at room temperature 20–25°C (68–77°F). Keep away from children and excess heat, light and moisture (not in the bathroom).

More Information
Imitrex may cause drowsiness or dizziness. These effects may worsen if Imitrex is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Imitrex with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Imitrex should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
